Asia Pacific Region
The concept of an Asia-Pacific regional association was first brought up in 1996, during the 10th Anniversary celebrations of the Lighthouse Club in Hong Kong.
The initiative focused on the idea of forming an Asia-Pacific Region of the Lighthouse Club which would be based in Hong Kong and whose function would be to promote the formation of Lighthouse Club branches around the region and to co-ordinate their international, or regional, activities.
The idea was received with enthusiasm, and a Steering Committee was formed with the task of forming the regional association.
Consequently, after more than two years in the planning, the Lighthouse Club - Asia-Pacific Region was formally established on 27th October 1998. It is registered as a society under the Hong Kong Societies Ordinance.
The Lighthouse Club - Asia-Pacific Region is a strictly non-political body, whose membership is drawn from branches of the Lighthouse Club throughout the region.
Its objectives are set down in its Constitution and are :-
- To support and when necessary, co-ordinate the work of charitable assistance throughout the region to persons within the Construction Industry who suffer hardship as a result of illness or injury, or to their dependents as a result of a fatality
- To promote the establishment of further branches of the Lighthouse Club in the Asia-Pacific region
- To promote good fellowship amongst the branches of the Lighthouse Club in the Asia-Pacific region and between their respective members and
- To administer the James Battersby Lighthouse Club Educational Trust.
